Let me introduce to you the strongest man at Merge, Mr. Miguel Garcia!!! Recently, we had a Strength Meet where we crowned the strongest man at this box. Miguel was our winner!!! I just simply love Miguel! He is ALWAYS at the box early and is one of the few people that is consistent about getting his mobility in. Not only is he consistent with WODs, but he’s also dedicated to taking care of his body as a whole. And guess what?! IT PAYS OFF! His determination and attention to detail have undoubtedly made him one of the strongest here at Merge. But don’t let his incredible strength fool you. When you approach Miguel, you find yourself in front of one the sweetest people ever. His kind disposition and politeness will blow you away. We are so happy to have Miguel be one of our very own. Our box would not be what it is without him here.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
2 years and 3 months
How did you hear about CrossFit Merge?
I heard about Merge from Icee. She knew I was looking for a more intense workout and highly recommended Merge. I called Bryce the same day and scheduled my intro.
What was your first CrossFit Merge WOD experience like?
It was the intro WOD. I thought I was in decent shape after training at LA Fitness for several years but I was so wrong. The mini AMRAP really humbled me and made me realize i needed a change. After I caught my breath I knew I found exactly what I was looking for and I signed up.
What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?
If you don’t know me very well I may seem like a douchey meat headed gym rat but I’m really just a casual person. I like to laugh and make others laugh. I enjoy movies, Family Guy, The Walking Dead, The Doyer (Dodgers) and 49er football. Oh and I’m not bad at fantasy football either.
What is your greatest CrossFit Merge accomplishment thus far?
In my years at Merge I have so many accomplishments that I’m proud of but I’ll pick a few.
Double Understand – this is one if those things that took a lot of practice, patience and determination. Some days I would just give up. But after about 7 months or so the practice paid off.
Power Snatch 195 – the snatch has been one of those movements that really kicks me in the face. Just when I think I’m getting better it reminds me that I better keep practicing. But I love it because I appreciate the challenge and the process to improve.
Clean 255 – considering that I couldn’t clean for the life of me when I started I’ve made a lot of progress. My first cleans were really reverse curls and muscle cleans. I was so bad at them that I thought there was no hope for me. So I started attending the weightlifting classes to improve. It has taken so many hours of practice and hard work but I feel more comfortable now thanks to the great coaches. I can’t wait to smash that 255 number though.
What is your favorite WOD and why?
I don’t have a favorite WOD. But if I had to pick one I would say Grace. 30 reps for time. Let’s go!
But I prefer a great lifting session. Those days when the bar feels light and my technique is spot on. Those days when the energy and intensity is high in the gym and everyone seems to hit a PR. Those bro sessions are awesome.
What is your least favorite WOD and why?
My least favorite WOD was Icee’s birthday WOD. I don’t even remember what it was but it really sucked. I couldn’t even finish it because I ran out if time.
What advice would you give a new member?
Don’t wait to get injured to start doing mobility. Mobility is more important than you think. It will make any movement easier and help you prevent injuries.
This maybe obvious but whatever you put into Crossfit is what you get out of it. If you dedicate time to practice a movement you’ll get better. If you don’t then you’ll keep sucking at it.

Out of all the hours in the day (both sleeping and awake) how much time do you spend working out? Thinking about CrossFit? Dreaming it? Watching vids? etc.
I couldn’t say it varies. I enjoy Kelly Sraretts Mobility WOD videos he has helped me so much with my elbow tendinitis injury. I also like Barbell Shrugged they have great videos on technique and those dudes are hilarious.
What was the best movie you saw this last year and why?
I finally saw Breveheart and it was awesome!
If you could be an animal, what animal would you want to be? Why?
I’m a Leo so obviously I’d be “The King of the Jungle” or Narnia would be cool too.
What is the ultimate dream vacation?
A trip around the world. If I could drop everything and take as much time off as I wanted and spend as much money as I wanted that would be amazing. Oh and of course I would have a blog. Does that make me Chris B? (what up beast mode?)
If you could be any superhero, who would it be and why?
Wolverine so that I can kill as many zombies as I want without worrying about running out if bullets. Oh and the physique wouldn’t hurt either.
Where do you see yourself in 1 year?
Continuing to improve in Crossfit to help me improve in life in general.
