Raise your hand if you’ve ever gotten a PR on a lift, tried for an even heavier lift, failed, then felt defeated and lousy. Or maybe you got your first ring dip, but that only frustrates you because the muscle-up still eludes you?
In case you didn’t know, CrossFit is hard, really hard! Handstands, snatches, deadlifts, pull-ups, double-unders, we CrossFitters are doing some pretty high skilled and technical movements. These movements take time and practice, and for many of you, a lot of frustration before you’ll get them. CrossFit is a double edged sword, you make progress on a lift or a gymnastics skill, but you’re not satisfied because there always seems to be more to do. Your ‘CrossFit goal line’ always seems to be shifting.
This constant desire to improve is a good thing, but you also need to look back every now and then to see how far you’ve come. Don’t focus just on where you want to be, but also acknowledge how much you’ve accomplished. Spend about 5 minutes today looking through your workout journals. Flip back a few months and take some time to recognize your progress. Yeah, it’s a long road, but at least you’re moving forward, don’t forget that.
