CrossFit Merge is full of wonderful athletes and Joe is by far no exception! He is so determined, strong, and dedicated. Every time he comes in to do a WOD, he demonstrates incredible persistence and intensity. Joe is always willing and wanting to find new ways to improve his form and diligently works at setting new PRs for himself. It is without a shadow of a doubt that Joe is one of the best at our box!
And now presenting to you, Joe Stones!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I just started back in November of last year after taking off over year and a half off due to work, so three months steady.
How did you hear about CrossFit Merge?
I came across it when I was searching the CrossFit web site and found a box in my zip code. I thought to myself, “Crossfit Merge is so close I have no excuse to not go.” I checked out the web site and saw Bryce was the coach. I had done a few WODs with him a year ago and was impressed with his intensity and knew he would be a good coach. Plus he is fellow Jarhead.
What was your first CrossFit WOD experience like?
Humbling to say the least. I thought I was in shape till my first crossfit workout. I was sore for days.
Is there anything you’d like to people to know about you?
My favorite drink is a dirty bombay saphire martini, and I love to sail and race sailboats.
What is your greatest CrossFit accomplishment thus far?
Making it through a WOD and beging able to walk out the door with no puke on my face. (Joking!)
What is your favorite WOD and why?
Murph, I love to hate it. Every time I have finished it I feel a real sense of accomplishment. Only someone that has done it could appreciate how that feels.
What was the best advice you were ever given thus far in your training at CrossFit Merge?
I can’t think of one specific thing. The coaches at Merge have provided good advice on burpees, pull ups, lifts, mobility, and double-underss that have improved my performance in all of those areas. I share what I can with new members. I learn something new almost every workout. I try to be a good observer and learn something from everyone in every class.
What one or two things do you currently do in your training that are keys to your success?
Give myself time to recover, keep a positive attitude and never give up.
Who do you think would win a battle between a ninja and a pirate?
Well I have never seen a ninja / pirate movie so I cant say for sure. Since I identify more with the pirates, I will say pirates, when all else fails they start blasting guns and cannons.
If you were a type of food, what type of food would you be?
Steak, from a Texas Long Horn bull.
What would you do if you had a time machine?
It I had a time machine I would go forward in time. I like history and have an understanding of some events in the past so no desire to go back. The future I don’t know, so to fast forward 10 years for some good stock tips then a 1000 years forward to see the planet and what life is like in the future would be fun.
Where do you see yourself one year from now?
Doing a muscle up!
Thanks Joe for sharing your time, energy, and thoughts. We are so thrilled you have decided to make us your CrossFit family. We look forward to watching you get that muscle up! And maybe we should draft up some plans for a pirate ship time machine…
